Holi Pooja

Holi Pooja, known as Holika Dahan, takes place on the eve of Holi and symbolizes the triumph of good over evil. It commemorates the burning of the demoness Holika, who was destroyed by her own deceit while trying to kill the devotee Prahlada. The pooja involves lighting a bonfire and offering prayers to Agni (fire god) to purify one’s surroundings and soul.

People gather around the Holika fire and perform parikrama (circumambulation) while offering grains, coconuts, sweets, and dried cow dung cakes into the fire. Special prayers are recited for protection from evil influences and the destruction of internal negativities such as ego, anger, and jealousy.

Holi Pooja is both a symbolic cleansing and a festive beginning. While the next day is marked by colors and joy, Holika Dahan is a serious spiritual ritual that reminds people of the power of faith, righteousness, and divine justice. It encourages one to shed old, toxic patterns and welcome a new, vibrant beginning.
