Jatakarma

Jatakarma is performed immediately after a child’s birth to welcome the newborn into the world and ensure health and longevity. Traditionally, it includes placing ghee and honey on the baby’s tongue while reciting Vedic mantras. The father often whispers sacred verses or the baby’s name into their ear.

This ritual purifies the baby from birth-related impurities and invokes blessings of intellect and strength. Prayers are offered to deities and family ancestors for protection, growth, and spiritual destiny. The newborn is introduced to its dharmic lineage through this gentle initiation.

Jatakarma celebrates the miracle of life and the continuity of dharma. It acknowledges the child as a soul on a journey and marks the beginning of physical, emotional, and spiritual nurturing within a sacred family environment.
