Seemantham/Godh Bharai
Seemantham (South India) or Godh Bharai (North India) is a joyous prenatal ritual performed in the 7th or 8th month of pregnancy to bless the mother and the unborn child. It marks the celebration of motherhood and the welcoming of new life into the family.
The expectant mother is adorned with new clothes, jewelry, and flowers. A pooja is performed to invoke the blessings of deities like Lakshmi and Parvati for safe delivery, health, and prosperity. Traditional songs and offerings of sweets, fruits, and gifts make the event festive and nurturing.
Spiritually, Seemantham symbolizes the protection of both mother and baby from negative energies. It also connects the unborn child to sacred vibrations through mantras and rituals. The ceremony strengthens the mother’s emotional well-being and reminds her of the sacredness of childbirth.
