Pitra Pooja/Shraddha

Pitra Pooja, also known as Shraddha or Tarpana, is a solemn and essential ritual to honor and appease one’s ancestors. According to Hindu belief, the souls of departed forefathers reside in a spiritual realm and can influence the well-being of their descendants. Performing Shraddha helps maintain the karmic and spiritual connection between the living and the departed.

The ritual involves offering food (pind daan), water (tarpan), and prayers, usually performed on the death anniversary or during Pitru Paksha (fortnight dedicated to ancestors). A Brahmin is invited, and a specific set of mantras is recited to guide the ancestral souls toward peace and liberation (moksha).

Pitra Pooja is believed to remove ancestral curses (pitru dosha), ensure family harmony, and grant blessings for health, success, and children. It instills a deep sense of gratitude and respect for lineage and roots. Regular observance of this ritual helps maintain spiritual balance across generations and invites blessings into the family’s karmic cycle.
