Surya Namaskar & Arghya
Surya Namaskar, or Sun Salutation, is a dynamic sequence of yogic postures combined with controlled breathing, traditionally performed facing the rising sun. It activates the entire body, improves circulation, and energizes the mind and spirit. It is often followed by the ritual of offering water (Arghya) to Surya Devta, the Sun God, symbolizing gratitude and reverence.
Offering Arghya is considered a vital morning ritual in Hindu households. Water is poured slowly from a copper or brass vessel while reciting mantras such as “Om Suryaya Namah.” As the sunlight passes through the water stream, it is believed to purify the aura and energize the chakras. This practice is not only devotional but also scientific—exposing the eyes to early morning sunrays benefits vision and vitamin D absorption.
These rituals represent the connection between individual consciousness and cosmic energy. By honoring the Sun, the life force behind all creation, one becomes more aware of their own role in the universal rhythm, cultivating gratitude, vitality, and harmony.
